Surfer James Eastman spoke from his hospital bed about a shark attack at a California beach. He was surfing at Big River Beach in Mendocino when a shark attacked him, causing severe leg injuries. Despite the attack, he managed to paddle back to shore and was aided by off-duty lifeguards. Eastman’s wife, who works in the Emergency Room, was shocked when she heard about the incident. The couple, who met through surfing, got married near the beach where the attack occurred. A GoFundMe has been set up to help with Eastman’s medical expenses and rehabilitation. The California Department of Fish & Wildlife is investigating the incident to determine the shark species involved. California State Parks issued a 48-hour beach closure following the attack, emphasizing the rarity of shark interactions with humans in the coastal ecosystem. Despite the ordeal, Eastman hopes to return to surfing in the future and considers himself lucky.
